Taiji for longevity

Meditation in motion
Taiji has been use by many as a maintenance to their health and well-being. For its seemingly soft, slow and light movements, it has been referred to as a “meditation in motion”. Though created as a form of martial arts for self-defense in China in the 14th century, it has proven itself to be a therapeutic art for optimum health.
It trains slow to realized speed, trains light to obtain strength and trains soft to achieved hardness. Most of its therapeutic properties are found when the accomplished practitioners realized their strength improvement and balance of their lower exremities, the pliability of their body and the spring-like energy in their arms.
The differences between the practice of Taiji and other exercises are:
1) The principles behind the movements. Taiji symbolized the balanced aspect of Yin and Yang or the two primodial forces of energy. When these two forces are out of balance, things fall apart, chaos ensue and illness follows. Practicing Taiji helps to keep these forces in check.
2) The second important aspect is the development of this vital energy (Qi) and enhancing it’s flow in the channels of the body. It utilizes the co-ordination of breath and mind to creates a harmonious flow of qi throughout the body. When Qi flows, blood flow. When blood flows, circulation is enhanced and the blockages that causes pain is lessened, stress is reduced and healing takes place.
3) Third, is it’s ease of practice. It can be practice anytime and anywhere without the need for a large space or special equipment. It is also a very safe exercise for everyone regardless of age, profession or state of health.
